= foetor; n.
an unpleasant smell. Fetor oris is bad breath (halitosis), which is most commonly caused by poor oral hygiene but can also occur in patients with acute appendicitis or uraemia. Fetor hepaticus is bad breath with a sweet faecal odour, occurring in patients with severe liver disease.
